Larry D. Zach, age 83, of Greencastle, PA, passed away on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at Meritus Medical Center. Born July 5, 1941, in Narka, KS, he was the son of the late Frank J. Zach, Jr. and Viola Hubka Zach.
Mr. Zach was a 1964 graduate of Colorado State University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting. He went on to serve honorably in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict. After his service, Mr. Zach worked as an accountant for Sears and Roebuck Company and later was a driver for Werner Transportation and later D.M. Bowman, where he retired in 2007. Mr. Zach was a member of the Marion First United Methodist Church and a life member of the VFW Post 6319 in Greencastle, PA. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, word puzzles, especially Sudoku, and woodworking. However, his most cherished pastime was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Surviving is his wife of 27 years, Isabella McLeod Zach, whom he married on August 15, 1997; three children, Melissa DedRick (husband Jay) of CO, Robert Zach of CO, and Michael Zach of AZ; two stepchildren, Terri Elyard of Greencastle, PA and Scott Hawbaker (wife Tammy) of Greencastle, PA; four grandchildren, Connor Elyard, Jaidyn Elyard, Skylar Starliper, and Sophie Dietrich; and two brothers, Howard Zach of NC and Dennis Zach of CO; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Gail Starliper.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 9, 2025, at 11 AM at the Marion First United Methodist Church, 94 Colorado St., Marion, PA 17235, where Pastor Brent Stouffer will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church above. Interment will be private. Arrangements are entrusted to the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Inc., Greencastle, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the above church and address.
