Laura S. Mathews, 87, of Bicknell, IN, passed away Friday February 28, 2025 at 6:30 PM. Laura was born January 26, 1938 in Antigo, WI, the daughter of Erwin and Alma Brennecke Forbes. After graduation from high school, she graduated Beauty College, worked as a beautician, and worked as a server. She married Jessie Mathews on June 15, 1967 and they made their life together for nearly 58 years. Laura held memberships in Bicknell Methodist Church, VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother.
Laura is survived by her husband, Jessie Mathews, their children, Robert "Bob" Getchell of Oaktown, IN, Ralph (Debbie) Getchell of Edwardsport, IN, Jeanne (Dewayne) Hoffman of Indianapolis, IN, and Janet (Michael) Deuber of Palmyra, IN and a son in law, Arthur Pahmeier of Westphalia, IN. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, and a sister, Suzi Jeffery of Juneau, WI.
Laura was preceded in death by 2 children, Diane Pahmeier, Jessie Mathews, her parents, Edwin and Alma Forbes, 5 brothers, Glen Forbes, Vernon Forbes, Delbert Forbes, James Forbes and Larry Forbes, 3 sisters, Edna Stogbauer, Alma Houck and Rosemary Brochin.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday March 7, 2025 at Bicknell Methodist Church at 1:00 PM with Pastor Keagan Thomas officiating. She will be laid to rest by entombment at the Bicknell Memorial Mausoleum. The family will receive friends on Friday March 7, 2025 at Bicknell Methodist Church from 11:00 AM until the time of services at 1:00 PM. Memorial contributions can be made to the Bicknell Methodist Church in her memory. Duesterberg-Fredrick Wampler Shaw is honored to assist Laura's family during their time of loss.
