Laura June Steen, 64, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on January 14, 1961, in Kingfisher, Oklahoma, Laura was the third daughter of John Steen and Anna Mae Steen. She grew up in Kingfisher and graduated from Kingfisher High School in 1979 before attending Oklahoma State University and the University of Central Oklahoma.
Laura built a distinguished career in retail management, serving as District Manager for The Limited and later for Charlotte Russe. With her keen eye for fashion and natural leadership, she left a lasting impact on her colleagues and teams. Always impeccably dressed, she was known for her signature look of cozy sweaters, jeans, and heels, and for a style that was both elegant and effortless.
Outside of work, Laura found joy in shopping, cheering on her Oklahoma State Cowboys, riding horses, and caring for her beloved Shih Tzus, Sutton and Coco. She also gave back generously to her community, serving on the board of Junior Hospitality and playing a central role in organizing its annual Xanadu fundraiser.
In 2008, Laura experienced a stroke that left her partially paralyzed, yet she faced this challenge with remarkable strength and resilience. She defied the odds and continued on for seventeen more years, filled with laughter, family, and love.
Above all, Laura treasured her family. She is survived by her mother, Anna Mae Steen; her sisters, Jana Sue Cowherd (Kim), Carolyn Murphy and Donna Steen; her nephews, Kyle Cowherd and John Casey Murphy; her nieces, Jordan Cowherd and Madison Murphy; her great-niece, Zorie Kate Cowherd; and her great-nephew, Archer Alan Cowherd. She was preceded in death by her father, John Steen, and her brother-in-law, Walter Murphy.
Laura will be remembered for her warmth, elegance, and strength, as well as for her laughter, sense of humor, and unwavering spirit. She leaves behind a legacy of love, style, and joy that will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
