Laurel Lee McDermott, a beloved and devoted homemaker, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2025, at the age of 71. Born on July 30, 1954, in Detroit, Michigan, Laurel was a shining light in the lives of those who knew her.
Throughout her life, Laurel was dedicated to her family, cherishing every moment spent with them. She took great joy in her role as a mother.
Laurel is survived by four daughters: Renee Vertin, Melissa Glinke, Paula (Edwin Reyes) Belcher, and Michelle (Rolando) Reyes. Her love extended to numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought her happiness and pride.
She was united in marriage with John McDermott Jr. in 1990. John preceded her in death 2023. Laurel is also predeceased by her parents, William Edward Paine and Verna Elizabeth (Mater) Paine, and her daughter, Teri Vertin. Their memories remain forever in the hearts of her family, serving as a reminder of the strong bonds that defined her life.
Laurel Lee McDermott will be remembered not only for her dedication to her family but also for the love and joy she brought into their lives.
In honor of Laurel’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family service will take place later at Ft. Custer National Cemetery, where she will be placed with her husband John McDermott Jr.
