Laurence "Larry" Evans Cranford, 65, of Hume, Virginia, passed away Saturday May 24th at Blue Ridge Hospice Center in Winchester, Virginia.
Larry was born on November 22, 1959, in Alexandria, Virginia, son of the late Louis Evans and Joyce Brust Cranford.
Larry was a 1978 graduate of Fort Hunt High School, where he was a multi-sport athlete. He was also an active member of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church and youth group. Larry then attended West Virginia Wesleyan College on a scholarship for pole vaulting.
His early career was as a plumber in the Northern Virginia area. He later began a career in sales in the lumber and millwork industry. Larry was an avid American History buff, a talented cook and carpenter, as well as a music lover, especially bluegrass and country. His love of sports led to years of coaching youth sports in Fauquier County. Larry was a proud father who especially loved coaching his two sons' baseball and basketball teams for many years.
Larry's quick wit and sarcastic sense of humor was enjoyed by all (at least most), and he was always the life of the party. Larry was very generous with his time and willing to help anyone in need, friends and strangers alike. He will be sorely missed by his family and the many friends he made throughout his life.
Larry is survived by his sons, Louis "Lee" Cranford and wife, Holly, Moyock, NC; and Gavin Cranford, Virginia Beach, VA, sisters Susan Callaghan, of Winchester, VA, Jill Kelly and husband George of Williamsburg, VA, and Barbara Granuzzo of Ponte Vedra, FL, former wife Elaine Cranford, and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Joyce "Georgie" Kingery of Palm Coast, FL.
A celebration of life will take place at O'Brien's Irish Pub in Warrenton, VA on Saturday, August 2nd beginning at 3pm.
