Laverne F Bauer (Gawron) ObituaryLaverne Frances Bauer, age 87, of Sayreville, passed away on July 4, 2025, at home. Born Laverne Gawron on Pulaski Avenue in Sayreville, she graduated in 1955 from St. Mary High School, South Amboy and in 1959 from Immaculata College, PA. She then began a long and fruitful career as a high school English teacher, first at Sayreville War Memorial High School, then at St. Mary and finally at East Brunswick High School, from which she retired in 1998.
In the middle of all this, she found her husband, Bill, while they were both young teachers in Sayreville, raised three children and earned a Master's from Kean College. She was truly God's faithful servant and became a devoted parishioner at Our Lady of Victories Church in Sayreville. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother (Gummie) who will be dearly missed.
Laverne was predeceased by her beloved Bill, her parents Zygmund and Genevieve Gawron, and her sisters Joan Gawron, RSM, and Doris Evanovich. She is survived by her sister Mary Ann Gawron and her brother Raymond Gawron. She is also survived by her children and their spouses Jessica & Jeffrey Fuller, Matthew & Janet Bauer, Margaret & Jeffry Bertrand, as well as her cherished grandchildren, Frances, Michael, Luke, Anna, James, Charlotte, Wilken and Megan, and her great-granddaughter Emma.
If you knew Laverne and I told you she died in her garden as she pruned her roses, and that she was to attend the 9 o'clock Mass later that morning, you might shed a tear, but you would also know she would not have had it any other way. She lived a rich, full life, surrounded by books and music, movies and plays, family and friends. If there was any source of frustration or exasperation for her it was because of the Mets.
A wake will be held at the Maliszewski Memorial Home, 121 Main Street, Sayreville, on July 9, 2025, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Victories Church in Sayreville on July 10, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Sayreville. Those wishing to make charitable donations in Laverne's name are directed to the St. Vincent DePaul Society at our Lady Of Victories and the Inspire Family Life Center (www.InspireFLC.com). Letters of condolence, complete funeral details and directions may be found on maliszewskimemorialhome.com.
