Laverne J. McQuirter, a beacon of unwavering faith and boundless love, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2024, in Mishawaka, IN, at the age of 70. Born on September 3, 1953, in
Benton Harbor, MI, to the late Richard and Mary (Bass) Leach, Laverne's life was a testament to the power of dedication, hard work, and the unbreakable bonds of family.
Laverne's academic journey was marked by her insatiable thirst for knowledge and her commitment to excellence. After attending Lake Michigan College, she pursued her passion for numbers and strategy, culminating in a master's degree in accounting and business. Her professional achievements were many, but it was her role as the matriarch of her family that brought her the most joy and fulfillment.
Family was the cornerstone of Laverne's life. She was a loving mother to Aretha Page of Mishawaka, Cynthia Page of South Bend, William Page of South Bend, and Theodore Roberts of
Holland, MI., and a cherished stepmother to Roy Chatman, Ossie Chatman., Carl Gude, Lamar Cox, David Roberts, Lavette Roberts, Sandra Roberts, Michael Chapman, Michelle Chapman, Sharon Chapman, Michael Roberts, Curtis Roberts, Overtis Roberts, William Roberts (Big Jr), Mary Davis Frazier, Carele Wright and Quincy Roberts and grandmother to a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her siblings, Renee (Billy) Williams, Loraine Washington, Richard (Tonya) Lewis will remember her as a guiding light and a source of unwavering support. Though preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Mary, her grandson Anthony Page, along with siblings, Karen Woods, Jackie Woods, Ruth Ann Tobar, Arnold Woods, Earl Lewis, Gene Evans and Joseph Evans her legacy of love and faith continues to shine brightly through her family.
Laverne's life was a living example of her deep religious convictions. She walked in faith, and her actions reflected the teachings she held so dear. Her spirituality was the compass that guided her through life's challenges and triumphs, and she inspired those around her to seek solace and strength in their beliefs.
An avid gardener, Laverne found peace and contentment in the simple act of tending to her plants. Her garden was not just a collection of flora but a reflection of her soul. Her love for the outdoors extended to her passion for travel, where she embraced the beauty of the world and the diversity of God's creation.
Laverne's life was a journey of purpose and impact. She approached each day with a heart full of grace and a spirit that could not be dampened. Her presence was a source of comfort and inspiration, and her words were a wellspring of wisdom and encouragement. To be in Laverne's company was to feel the warmth of her kindness and the depth of her understanding.
Funeral services for Laverne will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, July 1, 2024 at The Bridge Urban Church, 2511 Milburn Blvd, Mishawaka, IN. Friends may visit beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Graveside service and burial will immediately follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery,
