Lawrence (Larry) William Croes was born on June 2, 1963, in New Richmond, WI, the son of Lawrence and Mavis (Severson) Croes. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Deer Park, WI.
Larry grew up on the family farm in Deer Park, attended Deer Park Elementary, and graduated from Amery High School in 1981. After graduation, he attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison Farm & Industry Short Course. After completing the Farm & Industry Short Course, Larry moved back home and began farming on the family dairy farm with his father.
After his father's passing in 1999, Larry took over and ran the family farm. Larry was an incredibly hard worker; he took excellent care of his animals, managed hundreds of acres of crops, was a great agronomist, and could fix nearly any piece of machinery. He loved people and never passed up an opportunity to strike up a conversation or lend a helping hand to a neighbor. Larry was a calm and patient guy. Even when things were not going as they should, he would always maintain composure and never lose his temper. As a farmer, Larry did not have a chance to do much travel, but he loved the opportunities to visit places like Texas, Hawaii, and Florida.
On September 22, 2001, Larry married Marsha Volkert and together they made their home on the family farm. He loved farming with Marsha, and they always enjoyed and appreciated it when brothers, brothers-in-law, nephews, great-nephews, neighbors, and friends lent a helping hand with farm work.
Larry passed away peacefully at Lakeview Hospital in Stillwater, MN on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at the age of 62 after a challenging year-long battle with cancer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence, and Mavis Croes, his in-laws Edward, and Mary Lou Volkert, his brother and sister-in-law Bob, and Dixie Croes.
Left to celebrate Larry's life are his wife, Marsha; siblings: Jerry (Charlotte) Croes, Carol (Jim) DeYoung, Kate (Don) Cloutier, Jo (Mike) Cernohous, Beth (Robert) Kroening, and Paul Volkert; nieces/nephews: Cindy Croes, Julie (Jake) West, Jeff (Miranda) Croes, Troy (Heather) Croes, Darren (Emilie) Croes, Tim (Cammi) DeYoung, Bill (Teresa) DeYoung, Mark (Dana) Cloutier, Amy (Tony) Cole, Anna Cernohous, Grace Cernohous, and Sam Cernohous; plus many great-nieces and great-nephews. Being the youngest of his siblings, Larry always cherished a close relationship with all his nieces and nephews. Larry also leaves behind many other relatives and friends.
There will be a visitation on Sunday, June 22, 2025, from 3:00 to 6:00pm at the Williamson-White Funeral Home in Amery, WI. Services will be held at 11:00am on Monday, June 23, 2025, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in New Richmond, WI, with a visitation one hour before the service. The family invites those attending to wear Larry's favorite color purple in his honor.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred.
