Lawrence “Larry” Day was born February 11th 1950 in El Paso, Texas to Carmen and Lawrence Day Sr. He moved on to the next life with dignity and valor on October 16, 2025.

Memorial services will be at 10:00 am, Saturday, October 25, 2025 in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel. Arrangements are b Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Larry grew up in Amarillo, Texas. He attended Crockett Junior High School where, notably, he was forced to cut his hair because the principal believed that “long haired boys were communists.” (Happy to report that Larry did not turn out that way).

Larry graduated from Tascosa High School in 1968. He went on to graduate from the University of Texas in 1977 with a BS in Chemistry and Microbiology and earned his MSPH, Environmental Engineering from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1982.

Larry held many jobs throughout his life, including working at Ross Rogers Golf Course in Amarillo as a teenager, which fostered his lifelong passion for golf. He was most proud of his career at Avion Solutions in Huntsville, Alabama, where he was Chief Operating Officer from 2000 to 2015. Larry made lifelong friends at Avion, and his leadership and vision were instrumental in growing and shaping the company in many significant ways.

Larry found sobriety in 1989, crediting his work with Alcoholics Anonymous for changing his life. Larry continued to work with AA in the various cities where he lived, passionately mentoring others on their respective journeys.

Larry had many other passions. He loved golf, playing multiple times a week. He was very proud to continue to be able to shoot his age. He loved college sports, especially UT and Alabama football. He enjoyed placing football bets with his son, Travis, and coaching the teams from his armchair. Larry was a very present grandfather and enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s various activities and sporting events. He also had a passion for travel, visiting many different parts of the United States and the world. His very favorite places included Paris, Prague, Copenhagen, Santiago, Budapest and the fjords of Norway.

Larry married the love of his life, Larraine, on March 4th 2017 in Hawaii. Together, they journeyed all over the world, visiting Belize, France, Switzerland, Germany, Portugal, Spain, Chile, Argentina, Peru, Uruguay, St. Lucia, traveling around Cape Horn and through the Drake Passage. All proving that it’s never too late to start your happily ever after.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Paula Day. He is survived by his wife, Larraine Day of Georgetown, Texas; son Travis Day of Madison, Alabama; step children Brandon Reeves (Kellie) of Canadian, Texas; Cameron Reeves (Jenn) of Canyon, Texas; Berkeley Boren (Jaden) of Bushland, Texas; and Leslie Lathem (Kyle) of Forsyth, Missouri. Grandchildren include Royale Reeves (Parke), Alexa Reeves (Ren), Zach (Ashley) Reeves, Teel Reeves, Mia Boren and Mazie Boren, and great grandchildren Remi and Ivy Reeves and Robin Bell.
