Lawrence E. Hobart, of Middleboro, formerly of Holbrook, known affectionately as Larry to his friends and loved ones, passed away peacefully, after a brief illness, on May 4, 2025, at the age of 92. Born on February 11, 1933, in Holbrook, Larry was the cherished son of the late Berton and Dorothy (Severance) Hobart. His life was a rich tapestry of love, dedication, and joy that touched many.
A devoted family man, Larry was the beloved husband of Miriam (Jenks) Hobart, with whom he shared countless treasured moments. A loving father, he leaves behind a legacy through his children: Lawrence Hobart, Jr. and his wife Maureen of Pembroke, Steven Hobart and his wife Diane of Pembroke, Garry Hobart and his wife Halina of NH, Cheryl Hobart and her partner Gary Clark of NH, the late Dale Hobart, Jeffrey Hobart and his wife Debra of Holbrook, and Jason Hobart and his wife Renee of Upton. He also held a special place in his heart for his stepchildren, Donna Gately and her husband Alan of Norwood, Reed Cherella and his wife Melissa of Fall River, and cherished the memory of the late Jack Cherella and his wife Patricia of Walpole and the late Richard Cherella. Larry's love extended to his sister, the late Priscilla Durost, and he fondly remembered his former spouses, Claire Caliri of NH and the late Elberta Hobart. His legacy continues to blossom through his 20 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and the tender memories of the 3 grandchildren and one great grandchild who predeceased him.
Larry was a proud graduate of Holbrook High School, where he not only excelled in academics but also left an indelible mark on the baseball field. His talent in the sport was recognized by the St. Louis Cardinals minor league system, which scouted him in his youth. His passion for baseball transitioned into a lifelong love for Boston sports, particularly the Boston Red Sox. Larry's professional life was as a skilled contractor who specialized in digging swimming pools for companies across the South Shore. He found great satisfaction in his work and took pride in the joy that his pools brought to families during hot summer days.
Beyond his professional achievements and sports enthusiasm, Larry's heart was most at home when he was surrounded by his family and friends. His selfless, loving, and kind nature made every gathering a warm and memorable occasion. He was the type of man who would go out of his way to help others, always putting the needs of his loved ones before his own.
Larry's life was one of purpose and pleasure. His days were spent doing what he loved, whether it was cheering on his favorite teams, sharing stories with friends, or simply basking in the company of his expansive family. His was a life well-lived, and the impact he had on those around him will continue to be felt for generations to come.
