Lawrence Kanevsky Obituary

In the second half of his life, Larry found family and home with Kim, his wife of 40 years, their daughter Molly, and their dog Mary. Larry was happy for his daughter Polly's marriage to Bob. He was especially touched that Bob asked his permission to marry Polly. He was profoundly grateful that he recently reconnected with his oldest daughter, Jenny, and was excited and hopeful about her life's path in moving closer to the family with her son Theo.
And so it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Larry Kanevsky on Thursday, January 27th, 2022, after a brief but difficult battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 82.
A loving and committed husband, father, brother, and friend, Larry lived a full life as a remarkably creative and ground-breaking photographer and teacher and a continuously curious, passionate student of intellectual and artistic pursuits.
Larry is survived by his loving wife, Kim, his three daughters, Molly, Polly, and Jenny, his brother, Michael, and his grandchildren Benjamin, Theo, and Lucas. To all the cousins and others, you know who you are.
On June 30th, 1939, Larry was born to Bernice Feldstein in Philadelphia. He made Philadelphia his home and experienced all the city has to offer. Larry (and Mary) probably walked the Wissahickon more than anyone, except maybe Jack Taylor. In earlier years, he had a photography studio in the heart of Center City, where he did freelance photography and practiced his art. Larry and his ten-speed bicycle saw a lot of pavement throughout Philly, sometimes comfortably from the seat and sometimes from the ground looking up.
Larry also taught photography for many years at the Art Institute of Philadelphia, where he cherished the creative engagement he had with his many talented students. He had many interests, and with everything Larry did, he went all in.
Relatives and friends are invited to Larry's Memorial Service Saturday 2/12, 11am at St Martin-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church, 8000 St Martins Lane. Philadelphia, PA 19118.
Should you wish to honor Larry in remembrance, the family requests donations in his name to (Advancement Office, 31 W Coulter St, Philadelphia, PA 19144) or The Church of (8000 St Martins Ln, Philadelphia, PA 19118). Thank you.
