Lawrence Liblong Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jansen Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services on Apr. 23, 2024.
Lawrence Joe "Larry" Liblong, a cherished husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2024, in Lapeer, Michigan, at the age of 82. Born on July 27, 1941, in Almont, Michigan, Larry was a beacon of strength and love to all who knew him.
Larry's life was one of dedication and service, both to his country and his community. After attending local schools and graduating from Almont High School in 1959, Larry honorably served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. His commitment to service continued long after his military days. He was a respected businessman who owned and operated Gambles Store and worked at LaHaie's Auto Service before retiring from the Chrysler Tech Center as a Fire Officer in 2003.
Larry's sense of duty was matched by his involvement in numerous community organizations. He was a proud member of the Almont-Dryden Masonic Lodge #51 and served as Past Commander of the Almont American Legion Post #479. His passion for education and safety led him to teach hunter safety in Almont for 25 years. Larry also dedicated 25 years of his life as an Almont Fireman and EMT, showcasing his unwavering commitment to the well-being of others.
In addition to his public service, Larry was deeply involved in local governance and civic duties. He was a past constable of Almont, served on the Almont Planning Commission, the Hough Cemetery Board, and was a past president on the Lapeer County Intermediate School Board. His leadership and wisdom were invaluable assets to the community he so dearly loved.
Larry's influence extended to the youth as a past Boy Scout leader, shaping the lives of many young individuals with his guidance and support. His legacy of service and leadership will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Family was the cornerstone of Larry's life. He is survived by his loving wife, Carol E. Liblong; his daughter, Lisa (Cordell) Liblong-Bristol; his brother, John Liblong; his grandchildren, Nickolaus, Scott, Chaz; and his great-granddaughter, Jade. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Isabel Liblong, and his grandson, Jared. The love and wisdom he imparted on his family are treasures that will be cherished and passed down through generations.
An avid outdoorsman, Larry found joy in fishing, hunting, and golfing. His happiest moments were those spent in the tranquility of nature or in the laughter and company of his family. Larry's love for the outdoors was only surpassed by the love he had for his family and friends. The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the staff of the Villages of Lapeer for taking care of Larry in his final years.
Cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. Memorial contributions in memory of Larry may be made to Humane Society of Michigan. Arrangements entrusted to Jansen Family Funeral Home – Columbiaville. Share memories, condolences, and pictures with the family at www.jansenfuneralhome.com.
