Lawrence Racioppo Obituary

Visit the Redgate - Hennessy Funeral Directors website to view the full obituary.
Lawrence Joseph Racioppo, 82, of Mashpee, MA, and longtime resident of Wappingers Falls, NY, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on Mott Street in New York, NY in 1943, he was the son of the late John and Emma (nee DeGeronimo) Racioppo. Lawrence was part of the first graduating class of Monsignor McLancy High School in 1960. He attended St. John's University in Queens, NY. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Camille (nee Marini) with whom he wed on June 13, 1964 shortly after graduation.

Lawrence worked for many years as a college recruiter for IBM, which took him across college campuses far and wide. It was this experience that made him a tremendous resource for family and friends and fostered a love for the college experience. Following his time at IBM, he was employed by The Children's Village in Dobb's Ferry, NY where he served as an advocate for many underprivileged youth.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, who stood by his side with unwavering love and dedication throughout their life together. Lawrence was a proud and loving father to Jacqueline (Jeffrey) Galiani of Trumbull, CT; Renee (James) Battaglia of Somers, NY; and Lawrence (Jennifer) Racioppo, also of Trumbull. He was a cherished grandfather to John, Jennifer, Lucas, Dena, and Matthew, all of whom brought him great pride and joy. He is also survived by his brother, Anthony (Linda) Racioppo and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

A huge sports fan, and despite being born in lower Manhattan, he was a passionate fan of both the Boston Bruins and Boston Red Sox for reasons frankly still unknown by his son. Attending Game 7 of the 2011 NHL Eastern Conference Finals at the TD Garden was among his greatest sports memories. Though he did not serve in the military, he held a deep respect and admiration for all branches of the armed forces, with a special regard for the United States Navy, having lost his Uncle and namesake at sea during WWII.

Lawrence loved animals having rescued many over the years. He will be remembered for his love of family, quick wit and his kind spirit. His memory will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 4, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm, at the Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and 4 Gorham Place, Trumbull, CT. A Funeral Mass will be held at Christ The King Roman Catholic Church, 4700 Madison Avenue, Trumbull, CT on Friday, September 5, at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers please make a contribution in his memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, www.stjude.org
