Lawrence "Larry" Henry Shaul
Age 82, of Corning, NY, passed away on November 1, 2024, after a long, courageous battle with illness. Larry was born on June 13, 1942, in Elmira, NY. He was the son of the late Henry Earl and Isabell Stella (Randall) Shaul.
Larry spent most of his life as a truck driver, working for JCD Transportation, A&P in Horseheads, NY, and S.M. Flickinger Co. of Elmira, where he delivered groceries to various restaurants, clubs, and fraternity houses throughout the Finger Lakes. After retirement, he found joy and purpose as an Administrator of the Corning Moose Lodge 274 and Club Manager of the Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. 1071. He attended many conventions and volunteered countless hours at the Corning VFW, Corning Moose, and Corning Elks Lodge. Larry could often be found in the kitchen, cooking meals for hundreds of people or managing orders for the next big event. His hobbies included gardening, and he often gifted trailer loads of his hard work to local friends and family. In his later years, Larry also enjoyed growing flowers and birdwatching.
In his younger years, Larry was an avid bowler, competing in various leagues and tournaments at Corning Bowl and Crystal Lanes.
He is survived by his daughter, Brenda (Joseph) Giardina of Corning, NY, and his son, Henry (Catherine) Shaul of Taylors, SC. His grandchildren include Joseph L. (Elissa) Giardina, Brooke (Haylee Miller) Giardina, Christopher (Erin) Shaul, Andrew Shaul, Jacob Perry and Bailey Perry (Dashaun Green). He also leaves behind great-grandchildren Briella, Levi, Isla, Brayden and one more on the way in March 2025, as well as his former wife, Marlene Shaul. Larry's children from his first marriage to Sandy Smith include Robin (Elizabeth) Carr, Lawrence (Paula) Carr, and Monica (Burley) Iak. His grandchildren from this marriage are Jerry (Amanda) Carr, Mike Carr, Daniel (Melanie) Carr, Rebecca (J.P.) Reynolds, and Ryan St. Clair, along with many great-grandchildren.
Larry is also survived by his siblings: Edmon Faulkner, Vena Good, and Ethel (Stanley) Bonham. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Robert and Earl Shaul, sister Jessie Hall, son Bruce Gerow, and grandsons Alex Shaul and Randy Carr, as well as brother-in-law William Good.
In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring Larry's tradition of giving by donating to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the Elks National Foundation, or a cause that is close to your heart.
A celebration of life will be held at the Corning Elks Lodge at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 17, 2024. We invite all to share memories and raise a glass in honor of Larry.
