Lawrence "Mike" Smith, age 85, died on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Capstone Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing, with his family by his side. Lawrence was born on May 24, 1940, in Canton, New York and was the son of the late Frederick and Rosalia (Rocco) Smith.
Mike graduated from Brentwood High School and found his calling in working with his hands. He worked in various positions before opening his own auto mechanic shop, Smith's Automotive. Mike owned and operated the shop for 20 years until his retirement.
Mike enjoyed fishing, old cars, and joking around with customers and friends. Many people might recall seeing him driving around Burnt Hills in his white Ford LTD Convertible with large stuffed animals riding along for company! Mike had a major sweet tooth, preferring anything sweet over his dinner any day.
Mike is survived by his wife, Louise A. Smith; his daughters, Cindi (David) Phillips and Debbie (Gary) Bell-Resue; his grandchildren, Travis (Jaime) Phillips, Monica (Chris) Van Buren and Dana Resue and his great grandchildren, Ava and Rose Phillips and Noelle Van Buren.
Interment will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at 2:00pm in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.
