Lawrence Joseph Stromeyer Jr.

Lawrence Joseph Stromeyer, Jr., age 96, passed away on March 11, 2025. Lawrence was born in Metairie, LA, on November 30, 1928, to Lawrence Joseph Stromeyer, Sr. and Olga Lichtenstein Stromeyer. Lawrence is preceded in death by his loving wife and soulmate of 70 years, Gloria Vollenweider Stromeyer, his sister Joyce Stromeyer Oliveri, and his parents.
Lawrence leaves behind to cherish his memory his children, Lawrence J. Stromeyer, III (Darlene), Ronnie J. Stromeyer (Gail), Jeffrey M. Stromeyer (Carol), and sister-in-law Betty Vollenweider Reed. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren: Kimberly (Mike), Larry IV (Lauren), Stephen (Amanda), Ron II (Lauren), Erin (Jason), Angelle (William), Angela, and Jessica and his great-grandchildren; Brynne, Olivia, Larry V, Aiden, Avery, Brinley, Adelaide, Drake, Emmaline, Branden, Maximus, Mila, Amirah, Sumaya, and Tasneem. Lawrence was a volunteer Firefighter for the Metairie and Elmeer Fire Departments until he became one of the original nine firemen to start the East Bank Consolidated Fire Department in 1952 until his retirement in 1982. He was in the building industry for most of his life and was a superintendent for Mesa Builders. Lawrence truly loved being with his family and spending time at the camp in Bay St. Louis, MS, until Hurricane Katrina. He also enjoyed watching old cowboy and western shows, especially Gunsmoke, and you rarely saw him without his cowboy boots and hat on. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider donating to Cystic Fibrosis for Avery's Army. Relatives and friends are invited to visit Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124, on Friday, March 21, 2025, starting at 10:00 AM. A prayer service will follow the visitation at 1:00 PM. The burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
