Lazaro Bie Obituary

Published by Cypress Lawn Funeral Home & Memorial Park on Jan. 16, 2015.
Lazaro Cano Bie, age 86, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on January 16, 2015. Lazaro, fondly known as "Doc," was born in Macabebe, Pampanga, Philippines, on December 17, 1928. He is the second of 10 children born from Irineo Bie and Felipa Cano. He grew up in Tondo, Manila where he studied to be a medical doctor at the University of Santo Tomas. While working at Mt. Banawe Hospital in Quezon City, he was introduced to the love of his life, Encarnita Diaz, whom he married in 1966. In 1969, he immigrated to the United States ahead of his wife and two young daughters to pave the way for a better life for his family. They reunited two years later, and Doc and Nita soon added three more children to their family. They initially lived in Daly City, California, and eventually settled in South San Francisco, California. Doc was a very dedicated husband and father who worked hard to provide his family with a better life than what he had growing up. He worked as a respiratory therapist at various Bay Area hospitals, including UCSF Medical Center and Stanford Medical Center. Upon retiring, Doc remained active by walking, taking computer classes, and working part-time at Candlestick Park for his beloved San Francisco Giants. Doc loved being around people. He was very friendly, kind, and affectionate and always turned out to be the life of the party. His bright smile and sparkling eyes lit up every room he entered. Doc is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Encarnita Bie, and his five children: Carmela Quiambao (Artemio); Rosario (James Myers); Ronald; Larry; and Jennifer. He had three beloved grandchildren: Olivia Quiambao; Jake Myers; and Sabrina Myers. The family would like to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers and support.
