Leah Walker, age 40, of Bulls Gap, passed away on Monday, April 10, 2023. Leah worked as the Site & Events Manager at Aiken County Historical Museum. She came from the mountains of East Tennessee, hailing from a tiny hamlet called Bulls Gap. Having been bitten by the history bug in Charleston as a child, she knew she had found her calling while attending a walking tour of the historic city. It was always Leah's goal to one day live and work in South Carolina. Leah completed a bachelor's degree in Museum Studies at Tusculum University, the oldest continuously operating school in Tennessee, and later went on to East Tennessee State University, where she attained a master's degree in Storytelling. After a turn with the National Park Service in Death Valley, she returned to her initial alma mater and the Museum Studies program. The home of Tusculum's founder, Samuel Witherspoon Doak, had the pleasure of having Leah as their Site & Events Manager for seven years. It was there that she truly grew into the museum professional she was. Leah joined the Aiken County Historical Museum in 2016, and thoroughly enjoyed working with volunteers and getting to know Aiken and her history.
She was preceded in death by parents, Raymond and Cathy Walker.
She is survived by her brother, Brent Walker; nephew, Aidan Walker; special nephew, Logan Pearson; special niece, Ciera Martinez; and several loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and best friends.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm Saturday, April 15, 2023 at Christian-Sells Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm. Graveside service will follow in Luv Field Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Rebecca Pearson escorted by Brent Walker, Becky Frandsen escorted by Mike Cobb, Beth McMahon escorted by Jim McMahon, Tessa Mack escorted by George Mack, Callie Braswell escorted by James Braswell, and Lacey Richards escorted by Josh Ringley.
