Leander Newton, Jr., a man whose presence left a lasting mark on every life he touched. A native of Marietta, Georgia. He was born on Oct. 5, 1933 and called home on Oct. 17, 2025. Leander lived 92 years full of purpose, discipline, love, and unwavering dedication to his family, his work, and his country.

“Jr” was the proud son of Leander and Willie Mae Newton. Unfortunately, he lost his Dad as a small child, but his Mom instilled strong values that helped to shape the man he became. From a

young age, he carried a deep sense of responsibility, service, and drive. It was that same drive that led him to serve in the United States Air Force, where he traveled the world and gained experiences that broadened his view of life, leadership, and excellence.

After his service, Lea built a remarkable career as an architect including his employment with Cobb County Government. He dedicated over 20 years helping to design and develop buildings across the Atlanta area. His work was not just about structures, it was about creating spaces where communities could grow, families could thrive, and memories could be made. His vision quite literally helped shape the skyline of his beloved Georgia.

Leander was also a proud member of Omega Psi Phi, carrying himself with dignity, pride, and brotherhood throughout his life. He valued loyalty, respect, and the pursuit of excellence in everything he did. Those who knew him knew he was a perfectionist not because he demanded flawlessness, but because he saw the best in people and wanted them to see it in themselves. He pushed others to rise higher, to give their all, because he knew they could.

He was a family man above all else devoted to his loving wife, Joan, with whom he shared 55 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a home filled with love, laughter, and lessons that will continue to guide generations to come.

Leander had a competitive spirit and a deep love for sports, especially football. Whether he was cheering from the sidelines or debating a play, his passion was contagious. And who could forget that infectious smile, the one that could light up a room but also that unmistakable sign when he was upset: the famous red nose that let everyone know he meant business.

Those who knew him would tell you that Lea lived by strong convictions. He was conservative in values, steady in his beliefs, and grounded in faith and tradition. He believed in hard work, discipline, and doing things the right way, even when no one was watching.

Leander Newton, Jr. lived a full and honorable life one of service, craftsmanship, competition, and love. His legacy is seen in the buildings he designed, the lessons he taught, and the countless lives he inspired to strive for excellence. Though he may no longer walk among us, his influence will remain standing tall like the architecture he created and the character he embodied.

Leander is survived by his daughter Raquel, his son Ryan, and his nephew Derrick, who looked up to him as both a mentor and a father figure. He also leaves behind grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great nieces and nephews who adored him, carrying forward his strength, intelligence, and drive.

May we honor his memory by living with the same purpose, precision, and passion that he did.

Rest well, Leander Newton, Jr. Your work here is done, and you did it beautifully.

We'll Love You Always. Forever in Our Hearts.
