Lee Deedmeyer Jr. passed away unexpectedly Friday, April 15th, 2022. Born in Long Branch, New Jersey on April 1st, 1957, he lived most of his life in 'his home town' of Freehold, New Jersey. After graduating from St. John Vianney in 1975, he began his musical career as a self-taught guitar player and singer. He was the founder of the legendary Jersey Shore bar band, 'Bystander'. He later cut his hair and donned a tuxedo and formed the band 'Mission Dance', which has performed thousands of parties and is still going strong today!
No one loved life more than Lee, and he lived every day to the absolute fullest! His appetite was legendary – a true foodie. He lived and breathed music! Rock n Roll was in his blood, and he was fortunate enough to have enjoyed many great concerts. Lee loved the outdoors, especially the beach and swimming in the ocean. He was also a Certified Master Gardener, and spent so much time not only taking care of his garden, but also everyone else's too! No one ever made more people smile.
Lee had a very big heart, and shared the love with everyone, but nothing made him happier than being with his family. His greatest role was playing Pop to his grandchildren.
Predeceased by his parents, Lee and Patricia Deedmeyer, and father-in-law Charles Carey. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 42 years, Tara Carey Deedmeyer, and his sister Dina Kudlack, and her husband Eric Kudlack. He is also survived by his daughters, Briana Lee and Bart Countryman, Lindsey and Chris Coyne, Whitney and William Lawes, his grandchildren, Kieran, Charlotte, and Connor Lee Coyne, Liam Lawes, Cassie Countryman, Katrina and Alex Parkinson, and great grandson Maverick Parkinson. He is also survived by mother-in-law, Mary Jane Carey, brothers and sisters-in-law, William and Najma Carey, Elizabeth and Matthew Sullivan, Charles and Lisa Carey, Maura and John Malley, Maryjane and Patrick Egan, Deirdre and Don Zeni, Meg and Bill Shaughnessy, Bridget and Peter Capestro, many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and his wonderful Freehold pals of almost 60 years, and his business partners Andy Kiely and Jeff Comer.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Lee's life Thursday, April 21st from 4pm to 8pm at Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center St. Freehold, NJ 07728. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, April 22nd at 10:30am at Saint Rose of Lima, 16 McLean St. Freehold, NJ 07728, followed by burial at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold.
Memorial contributions can be sent to the Open Door Pantry, 39 Throckmorton St. Freehold, NJ 07728.
'Take it easy, Lee' – it was heaven on earth with you!

I am so sorry to hear of Lee’s passing. I saw Bystander a lot in the early 80’s. Great band, great guy. Sending my love and prayers to his wife, children and grandchildren. May his memory always be a blessing.
