Funeral services for Lee H. Hayslette, 88, of Oxford, will be Friday, May 16, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Father John G. McDonald officiating. Burial will follow at Forestlawn Gardens with full military honors. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 15, 2025 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Church. He died Sunday, May 11, 2025 at his residence.
Mr. Hayslette was a proud native of West Virginia. He retired from the U.S. Army as a Command Sergeant Major serving three tours in Vietnam. He earned numerous commendations and awards, including the Bronze Star and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Unit Citation. He was an avid fan of Alabama football and a skilled card player who especially enjoyed Pinochle and Bridge.
Mr. Hayslette was a devoted member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, where he was a 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus and also served faithfully as an usher.
Mr. Hayslette is survived by daughters, Teresa Kauffman and Cynthia Doggett (Daniel); son, Dale Hayslette (Mary Jean); step-children, Gary Wood, Donnie Wood, Bobby Wood (Michelle) and Dana Morris (Terence); grandchildren, Shawna Kauffman (Jeb Duke), Shannon Owens (Chris), Danielle Goray (Langdon), Zachary Hayslette, Rachel Dunkle (Jeremy), and Erin Doggett; several great grandchildren, a great great grandchild and another on the way, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Hayslette is preceded in the death by his wife of 53 years, Yong Duk Kim "Lucia" Hayslette, and wife of 12 years, Patricia Ann Hayslette.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Gentiva Hospice, particularly the nurses, Katie, Heather, Misty and Tammy; CNA, Maddi; and social worker, Heather.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Hayslette's memory to Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church Building Fund, 1301 Golden Springs Rd., Anniston AL 36207.
