Lee Hogsten, 72, of
Ashland, Kentucky, passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Rockcastle Regional Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Kentucky. True to his nature, Lee passed away during the UK game, and he would have been pleased to know he left us on the day of their victory.
Born Calvin Lee Hogsten on October 28, 1952, in
Ashland, KY, Lee was the son of the late James C. and Maggie Lucille Carpenter Hogsten. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Michael Hogsten.
Lee was a proud 1970 graduate of Paul G. Blazer High School and went on to serve honorably in the U.S. Army. After his military service, he dedicated 39 years to working at CSX. Lee was an avid fan of the Ashland Tomcats and the University of Kentucky sports teams. When he wasn't watching sports, he enjoyed hunting and spending time outdoors. Though a man of few words, Lee's warmth, generosity, and loyalty spoke volumes. He was fiercely loyal to those he loved, and once you were his friend, you were a friend for life. One of his greatest joys was attending his grandchildren's events, cheering them on and creating memories together.
Lee is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Rae Stanley Hogsten; sons, Ryan Hogsten and wife Becki, and Joseph "Joe" Hogsten and girlfriend, Allie Brown; brother, Anthony "Tony" Hogsten and wife, Karen; two sisters-in-law, Paula Hogsten and Bea Stanley; grandchildren, Gabriel Hogsten, Carlee Hogsten, Rylan Brown, and Lyla Brown; and many extended family members and dear friends.
A military graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery, North East. Pastor Rob Queen will offer words of comfort, and military honors will be provided by the U.S. Army and American Legion Kenova Post 93.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Lee's memory can be made to the Putnam Stadium Foundation, 1520 Lexington Avenue,
