Lee C. Pettingill, 88, of Billerica, MA, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2025, at Lahey Clinic Hospital in Burlington, MA, with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Rose (Wasyluk) Pettingill, with whom he shared 64 wonderful years of marriage.
Born to Richard Pettingill and Louise (Jackson) Pettingill of Maine, Lee attended Quincy High School. After graduation, he proudly served in the United States Air Force as a technician, repairing aircraft. While raising his family he worked tirelessly to put himself through night school, ultimately earning an associate degree in Engineering from Northeastern University, graduating with distinction.
Lee had a fulfilling career, retiring from MIT Lincoln Laboratory in Bedford, MA after 22 years. His interests were vast and included politics, investing, gardening, woodworking and hands-on DIY projects.
He was also a former Cub Scout Leader and an active member of the Jaycees.
A lifelong learner, Lee strongly valued Education, believing that you are never too old to learn. He eagerly supported his children and grandchildren in their educational pursuits and life paths.
Lee and Rose shared a love for annual trips to Ft Myers Beach, FL, where they enjoyed long walks on the beach and capturing breathtaking sunsets. He also cherished camping trips, Canadian reunions with Roses large extended family, cruises and adventure travel. However, if you asked Lee about the best thing in life, he wouldnt hesitate to say: his wife, children, grandchildren, and, of course KFC.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Tim Pettingill and his wife Shelagh of Dracut, MA, James Pettingill and his wife, Alyssa of Essex Junction, VT, two daughters, Lisa Beals and her husband, Kevin of Westford, MA, and Tracy Pettingill of Billerica, MA, and his eight grandchildren, Diana, Kevin, Liam, Jackie, Kyle, Davin, Anniella, and Siobhan.
He was the brother of the late Richard and Carl Pettingill.
