Hemant Singh, 59, of Westford, MA died peacefully at Emerson Hospital in Concord, MA on Saturday, August 23, 2025. He had been battling ALS for eight years. He was surrounded by his loving family. He had been married to Namita Singh for 31 years and celebrated their last anniversary on May 6, 2025. He was born in Meerut, India to the late Dr. S.D. Singh and Radhika Singh. He liked to run and hike when he was young.

He graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi in 1990 with a bachelor's degree in Physics and Electrical Engineering. He moved to the United States the same year to pursue a master's degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Maryland College Park, which he completed in 1992. He worked for Cisco Systems for almost twenty years as a software engineer before falling ill.

Many of Hemant's colleagues have said he was the smartest person they knew. Three of his master's degree papers won the President's Award. He received over ten patents while working at Cisco. He loved to mentor others in their careers. He enjoyed programming and loved food-he was known as a "foodie". His favorite times were spent with his loving wife and children.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his son Kartik Singh, daughter Dr. Maegha Singh, his sisters Poonam Chauhan of India, Neelam Singh, also of India, and several nieces and nephews.
