Lee S. Schwartz Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Community Leader
Lee S. Schwartz, a devoted husband, cherished father, proud grandfather, respected business leader, and dedicated community member, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2025, at the age of 85.
Born in Waukegan, Illinois, Lee was a longtime resident of Lake Forest, Illinois. He is survived by his loving wife, Janice Schwartz; his daughters, Kimberlee Schwartz (Smith) and Jill Schwartz; his son, Kevin Schwartz; and his two treasured grandsons, Gunnar and Bennett Schwartz. He was preceded in death by his parents, William (Bill) and Clydia Schwartz.
Lee proudly served in the United States Coast Guard, exemplifying the duty and integrity that would define his life. He later earned his degree from the University of Colorado Boulder, an experience he fondly recalled throughout the years.
Professionally, Lee was CEO of Wm. Schwartz & Co. Insurance, the family agency founded in 1897. He led the company with passion, honesty, and unwavering commitment to clients and community.
A lifelong member of Glen Flora Country Club in Waukegan and a member of The Desert Mountain Club in Scottsdale, Arizona, Lee also gave back through leadership and service: he was a board member of the Waukegan YMCA, and an active member of Waukegan's City Club, the Lake County Contractors Association (now GLCA), and several networking groups across Lake County.
Lee is remembered for his steadfast leadership, quick wit, and devotion to family. He was honest to the core and never sugar-coated a thing-traits that didn't always endear him to everyone, yet earned deep respect for his authenticity. Beyond work, he found joy in fishing, golfing, fast cars, and, most of all, time spent with his family.
The family offers heartfelt thanks to The Laurel Memory Care in Vernon Hills, Illinois, and Accord Hospice in Deerfield, Illinois, for their compassionate care during Lee's final weeks.
A private service will be held in accordance with the family's wishes. A celebration of Lee's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to ALSAC/St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Lee's honor. Funeral arrangements by McMurrough Funeral Chapel (847) 362-2626.
