James "Jim" Patrick Curtin (Col. USAFR Retired)
Jim Curtin, 81, devoted husband and father, passed away October 1, 2025. He was the youngest son of William "Bill" and Bernice (Reilley) Curtin, born December 4, 1943 in Colby, KS. He was married 55 years ago in San Antonio, TX to Barbara (Senkel) November 8, 1969.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara, of San Antonio; daughter Becky and husband Robert Danz of Dallas; two sons, Mike of Marble Falls, and Bill and wife Lynda of Austin; 5 grandchildren; sister-in-law Jody Curtin,of Atwood KS; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two older sisters, Katherine "Kay" Noel and Ruth Nadine Stengel; his brother, Lawrence "Larry" Curtin; his brothers-in-law, Richard "Allie" Noel and Charles "Chuck" Stengel; nephew, Mitch Curtin, and a niece, Susan (Stengel) Page.
Jim moved with his parents to Boulder, CO where he attended Sacred Heart School from 1948-1957. He attended Holy Cross Abbey in Canyon City, CO from 1957-1961, and then attended the University of Colorado from 1961-1966, where he graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Air Force.
Jim achieved Professional Engineer licensure and proudly served in the United States Air Force for 32 years while on active duty and later through the Air Force Reserves. Jim's military career included stops in South Korea and Italy, culminating in the rank of Colonel. In recognition of outstanding service, Jim was awarded the United States Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding service.
He very much enjoyed keeping up with family and friends, hunting, traveling with his Red Horse group, restoring antique cars, working in his shop, watching college football, and winning poker games. He was hardworking and dedicated to family. He lived a very productive life in service to God, family and country. He had an easy smile and will be greatly missed.
Pallbearers are sons, Mike Curtin and Bill Curtin, son-in-law, Robert Danz, nephews, Ed Stengel and Mike Stengel, family friend, Zach Garza. Honorary pallbearers, grandsons, John Danz and Matthew Danz.
Funeral mass held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will be held at Fort Sam Houston officiated by Reverend Robert Ploch of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
The family of Jim Curtin would like to express our gratitude for all the support extended by family and friends. Thank you for the many calls, flowers, cards, and food.
A Visitation will be held Monday, October 13, 2025 from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North with the Rosary to be recited at 6:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Helotes, Texas followed by Funeral Procession to Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
