LeEtta Zelda (Ashpaugh) Appel, daughter of Orval Irvin Ashpaugh, Sr. and Katherine Louise (Kliewer) Ashpaugh was born March 11, 1944 and at the age of 80 yrs, 7 months and 2 days completed her earthly journey October 13, 2024. She grew up in Ellis County attending Arnett Public Schools, where she graduated. On November 16, 1963 in the Arnett Methodist Church, LeEtta was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Harlan Lee Appel. Their life together spanned nearly 59 years and they were blessed with two sons, Dustin Lee and Harlan Cody. Harlan and LeEtta's first home was in Oklahoma City, OK. followed by moves to Paris, Athens and Vernon, TX. While in Oklahoma City, LeEtta earned a degree in cosmetology. Their permanent home was established in Shreveport, LA. in 1993. LeEtta served as the bookkeeper for the livestock ingredient feed company where Harlan was part owner and salesman. She was a master gardener and held a special fondness for dogs. Her special interests included traveling and RV excursions She enjoyed cabin cruiser boating and served as the treasurer of the Shreveport Power Squadron Boating Club where she and Harlan were members. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, a friend to many and will be greatly missed.
LeEtta is survived by her sons Dustin Appel of Houston, TX. And Cody Appel and his wife Kacey of Shreveport, LA. Three grandchildren, Emery Appel of Houston, TX. and Boland Appel and Hannah Olivia Whittington both of Shreveport, LA. Her brother-in-law Waylen Appel of Woodward, OK., numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Orval and Louise Ashpaugh and her beloved husband Harlan Lee Appel. Her brothers, Gene, Clarence, Floyd and Orval Ashpaugh, Jr. and her sisters, Joy Ann Ashpaugh, Lola Boyd, Willa Johnson, Carolyn Chamberlain and Juanita Herron and other loved ones.
