Leland "Terry" Smith, 70, of Columbia, Missouri, passed away on August 18, 2025, at his home. He was born in Columbia on February 10, 1955, to the late Homer and Sarah Jane Smith (Murray).
Terry was a graduate of Hickman High School and Job Corps, where he obtained certifications in occupational exploration program, basic arc welding, and basic acetylene welding. He dedicated 35 years of his career to the University of Missouri before his retirement. Beyond his professional life, Terry was an entrepreneur, running a landcare service with his family, a business he later entrusted to his son in 2013.
His passions included drag racing in Missouri and Iowa with his brothers. Terry and his brother, Floyd, were also members of a motorcycle club, enjoying rides to various parts of Missouri. A love of music filled his Saturdays, which he spent with his brothers in a house full of laughter and love. He also enjoyed sharing his love for cars with his grandsons. In his youth, he found joy in fishing and rabbit hunting on the family farm.
Terry is survived by his son, Timothy Grant; daughters, Angela and Tasha Grant; brothers, Homer Smith Jr. (Rita), Wayne Smith, Herman Smith, and Marvin Smith; sisters, Marilyn Henderson and Patricia Smith; and sister-in-law, Judy Murray. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren-Dikendre, Jamean, Jaelin, Natahja, Myanna, Oktavia, Ahna, Braxton, and Kellan Grant-as well as four great-grandchildren-Carter, Ni'Sier, AriAunna, and Myeir Grant. He also leaves behind three Uncles Ernest and Harry Smith, and David Williams.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Sarah, his brother, Floyd Murray, and several uncles and aunts.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parker-Millard Funeral Service and Crematory, 12 E. Ash St.; Columbia, Missouri 65203. (573) 449-4153. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.milardfamilychapels.com
