Leo F. Cardi, Sr., 90, of Athens, PA, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 9, 2025, at his home following an extended illness.
He was born September 1, 1934, in Waverly, NY, the son of the late John and Grace (Wolfe) Cardi.
Leo loved his family and was very active in his grandkids' sports. He loved watching them play baseball and football. Leo was very proud of his Italian Heritage. It came out best in the way he cooked, especially Italian foods of any kind, and he was well-known for his trade mark meatballs and sausage. Leo was a proud member of the Sons of Italy. He loved reminiscing about his childhood.
He began his working career at O'Brien's, the Fountain Restaurant, and Morley's Newsstand. Leo then went to work for A& P, as the butcher, retiring in 1986. Following retirement, he was never one to sit still so he went to work for Acorn Markets and Busy Bee. In previous years, Leo was a Little League Coach. He enjoyed golfing and bowling. Leo had a wonderful and unique sense of humor. He was an avid Notre Dame fan.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his first wife and mother of his children, Audrey Cardi, second wife Reva Cardi, sisters Mary, Rose, Francine, and Lena, and brothers Joseph and John.
Leo is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Leo and Mary Cardi, daughter, Jeannette Cardi, daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Terry Kerr, sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Cindy Townsand, John and Julie Townsand, and Tom and Melissa Townsand, grandchildren, Tyler, Kayla, Dominic, Jason (Carrie), Matthew (Amy), Jeffery (Alicia), Kysha (Shaun), David, Nathaniel (Meggie), Hannah, and Jacob, and several great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his twin brother and his wife, Lewis and Joanne Cardi, sister and brother-in-law, Dolores and John McCutcheon, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
