Leo Lowney, 80, was a lifelong resident of Connellsville. He attended Immaculate Conception School and graduated in 1963. Leo received his college degree in history from Saint Vincent College in 1967. From 1969 until 2011 Leo was a counselor at Geibel Catholic High School. He also taught PE & American History when needed. During his tenure at Geibel you could find Leo courtside, trailside and in the dugout as the coach of the cross country, basketball and baseball teams. His love of basketball extended his coaching career outside of Geibel. He was an assistant coach for both Laurel Highlands High and Connellsville Senior High School basketball programs. In 2001, the Connellsville girls' team reached the WPIAL Finals. He last coached the Connellsville Senior High School boys' team as an assistant until 2014. Later he volunteered at the Nick Bosnic Basketball Academy. Leo was a proud member of the Geibel High School community and the town of Connellsville. He loved teaching and especially coaching. Leo was passionate about living fully and he was able to share his passion for life during his years as an educator and as a coach. He always put the needs of others before his own as was evident in the countless hours spent volunteering for the St. Vincent de Paul Society and Connellsville Community Ministries' food bank.Leo's family would like to thank everyone for their kind words & expressions of sympathy. They are looking forward to celebrating his life and legacy at a later date to be announced by the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME,INC, 111 E. Green St. Connellsville, PA. He was preceded in death by his father Leo and mother Alberta. His brother Jim lives in Midlothian, VA with his wife Celeste. Leo has two nieces; Erin Campbell of Richmond, VA and Mary FaJohn who lives in Denver, CO. Greta, Erin's daughter and Leo & Rocco, Mary's sons are his great niece and nephews. His best four legged friend, Marley, is in a new loving home. Julie Shroyer, a beloved cousin, lives in Connellsville with other members of the Ruggieri family.
