Leo "Byron" Schulten Jr.

Cumberland, MD – Leo "Byron" Schulten, Jr., 78, of Cumberland, MD, passed away Sunday, July 23, 2023, at his home with his wife and dog by his side.
Born August 2, 1944, in Washington, D.C., Mr. Schulten was the son of the late Leo Byron Schulten and Martha (Lucas) Schulten. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Byron was a Graduate of Beall High School, Class of 1962, Allegany Community College, and the FBI National Academy. He retired as Captain of the Cumberland Police Department after 37 years and was a veteran of the United States Army Reserves. Byron was a member of Our Lady of the Mountains Parish, St. Peter and Paul Shrine, the FOP Lodge #90, and the Mountain Amateur Radio Club Inc. He was a kind and humble man.
Byron is survived by his wife of 37 years: Sue Schulten; his four children: Deborah (Schulten) Fazenbaker and husband, Joe; Zachary Griffith and Amanda Hockman; Amanda Shaw and husband, Joshua; and Nicholas Griffith. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Michael Schulten; Zoe Griffith; Lily Griffith; Eliza Griffith; Nicholas Shaw; Mark Teter and wife, Brea; and Aidan Griffith; and his great grandchildren: Nora, Ezra, and Ivan; as well as several close friends.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD, (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 P.M.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at UPMC-Western Maryland, Schwab Family Cancer Center, Palliative Care, and Home Hospice for going above and beyond in the care and compassion for Byron.
