My deepest condolences to Leo´s family and many friends.

Leo loved riding his bike to Hollywood Beach to play paddleball, and would often pass by my Law Office and stop to talk.

In 1989, while off duty in Pembroke Pines, Leo saved a drowning man´s life by diving into a pool, rescuing him, and performing CPR. Leo was awarded Hollywood Police Officer of the Month for his Heroic actions.

Leo had a great attitude and fantastic sense of humor.

I worked with Leo back in the 1970´s, when HPD had just implemented an innovative program for Police Officers to dictate their reports with small portable handheld devices.

Late one night, we were parked next to each other, dictating our police reports. A frightened elderly woman had called for help concerning a Huge Toad in her toilet. It was a Cane Toad, known as Bufo Marinus, and has venomous glands which can kill a pet that bites it. After completing the call, we were doing our reports, and Leo started joking around, dictating about the Bufo Marinus Toad. He was just hysterical. Neither one of us could contain our laughter, and we laughed until tears fell from our eyes. It was such a welcome relief to our stressful and intense profession.

We remained friends throughout the years. Leo often attended Retiree breakfasts, events and gatherings. Leo was also involved in the community, and was good friends with our mutual friend Attorney Mark Butler, who he loved going to Daytona 500 with for many years.

Leo and I would always visit at Mark´s many Christmas and other parties. We would only need to say two words to each other to get us laughing..."Bufo Marinus". Here´s to you Leo. "Bufo Marinus" Buddy. I´m going to miss you...
