Leon F. Akerly
Leon F. Akerly, age 91, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 2, 2024. He was born in Erie on January 18, 1933 to the late Frederick and Ethel Akerly.
Leon graduated from Harbor Creek High School and was a local business owner for many years, founding North American Compounding in 1976 and later American Biodiesel.
In addition to his parents, Leon was preceded in death by his wife, Rhea Akerly; stepdaughters, Cheryl Mook and Karen Pannuti; grandsons, Chase and Damon Akerly; granddaughter, Jennifer Sisco; brothers, Leslie, Marvin, Norman, Wallace and Gerald Akerly; sisters, Hazel Hinkler, Virgina Bannister and Shirley Weindorf; and two great grandchildren.
Leon is survived by his daughter, Marni Akerly; son, Leon Akerly II; stepdaughter, Carolyn Schuler; nephews, Dan (Pat), Doug (Debbie) and Terry (Steph) Akerly; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements are private and being handled by Dusckas Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 2607 Buffalo Rd.

I met Leon when He was about 61. (friends of Chuck)... Leon was a good basketball player, even as He got older. He was shooting some hoops at my Place. And He was still a good runner. He shared with us alot of memories of his basketball days, and all of the sports he had played. Leon was a really really good athlete. He was just a natural athlete!!.
