Leon "Herbie" Balboni, 90, a lifelong resident of Kingston, passed away peacefully at his home on April 11th, surrounded in love by his family.
Born in Plymouth, MA on July 14th, 1934, he was the son of Joseph Balboni and Anna (Benotti) Balboni. He is pre-deceased by his parents, his brother and business partner, Robert.
Herb graduated from Kingston High School in 1952 and earned his degree from Bryant College in 1954. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and later returned to Kingston where he continued to work in the family business, Kingston Oil and Gas with his father and brother.
Herb is survived by his beloved wife of almost 68 years, Nancy. Together they built a life dedicated to each other and their family. Herbie also leaves his devoted children: Joyce Keohan (Frank), Carol Price (Bob), all from Kingston and sons, Joseph Balboni (Maura) of Marshfield and John Balboni (Jennifer) of Milton. He was the proud Grandpa of 9 grandchildren: Zachary, Matthew and Drew Keohan (Jessica), Eric and Lauren Price, Jack and Jimmy Balboni and Emily and Christopher Balboni. He was delighted to be a great grandfather to Noah Keohan. Herb is also survived by his sister Gloria Smith of Florida.
A man of many passions, Herb was a lifelong tennis player and avid sailor, having served as Commodore of the Plymouth Yacht Club. He belonged to the "Woodchucks", a local woodworking group who made wooden toys for children in area hospitals. He served on the Kingston 275th Committee and was a member of the Plymouth Industrial Board.
Herb was a man of great faith. He was a member of St Joseph Parish and served on numerous committees including St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Parish Building Committee. He volunteered to direct the parking lot traffic during CCD classes and is remembered for his friendliness and his Mickey Mouse gloves!
Herb took great joy in spending time with his family, particularly enjoying the traditions of summer clambakes that spanned more than 5 decades as well as preparing with his wife, Nancy, the Feast of the Seven Fishes on Christmas Eve. He will be remembered for his deep love of family, his generous spirit and his commitment to his community. He leaves a lasting legacy of kindness, integrity and humor. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation for the care of BID Cardiology Department and the entire staff at BID Plymouth Hospital for their exceptional care. Deep gratitude also to Lucy, Herb's caregiver, who became family over the years.
There will be a visitation Monday April 21st at Cartmell-Davis Funeral Home at 150 Court St. Plymouth from 5-7 P.M.; a Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, April 22nd at 10 A.M. at St Joseph Parish, 272 Main St., Kingston followed by burial at St Joseph Cemetery, 130 Elm St., Kingston.
