Leon Giguere Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 1, 2025.
Leon E. Giguere, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2025, at the age of 86 in Chester, PA. He was born on July 20, 1938, to the late Leon Joseph Giguere and Rose Mae Schuhay in Philadelphia, PA. Leon's life was marked by dedication, hard work, and a deep love for his family.
Leon's life was also exemplified by a deep devotion to his wife of 65 years, Mary Ann (Matteo) Giguere. High school sweethearts they married shortly after graduation from Mercy Technical Institute, living in Essington for over 50 years before moving to a retirement community in Chester, PA in 2015. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, support, and mutual respect. He was also a loving uncle to his nephews and spouses Adam and Dawn Matteo, Joseph and Nely Rojas Matteo, and his grand-nephews and niece, Anthony, Vincent, Dominic, and Melina. His role as an uncle was one he held with great pride and joy, always ready with a story, a laugh, or a word of advice.
Leon spent most of his career as a skilled crane operator at Westinghouse, where he worked for 29 years. His commitment to his work was evident in the precision and safety with which he approached every task. After his time at Westinghouse, Leon continued to share his talents at Sears before ultimately finding his passion in landscaping, where he spent the remainder of his career.
As we gather to remember and celebrate the life of Leon E. Giguere, we hold close the memories of a man who was the embodiment of kindness, faith, hard work, and familial devotion. His was a life rich in experiences, shared laughter, and unconditional love-a life that will continue to inspire and guide us.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 27th at 10am at St. Rose of Lima Parish in Eddystone, PA, followed by a funeral mass at 11am and interment at St Peter and Paul Cemetery in Springfield PA.
