Leon Kozlowski, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2025, at Burgess Square in Westmont, Illinois. Born on November 21, 1936, in Janow Lubelski, Poland, Leon's journey brought him across the world to the United States, where he built a life marked by hard work and the love of his family.
Beloved husband of the late Mary Kozlowski. Leon was the loving father of Dorothy and her husband Mark Urban, Daniel, and his wife Kelly, and Joanne (deceased). His role as a father was one of his greatest joys, instilling in his children the values of humor and resilience. He was also the cherished twin brother of Helena Rabinska and brother to the deceased Piotr, Mieczyslaw, Jan, Marian, and Stanislaw. His grandchildren, Matthew, Monika, Lucas, and Jack, will remember their dziadzio for his playful spirit and the loving attention he devoted to them. Leon also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends both in America and Europe, all of whom will dearly miss his zest for life and the stories he shared.
Leon served in the Polish Air Force and an airplane mechanic. When he moved to Chicago, he established himself as a skilled machinist. His dedication to his craft was evident in the many factories around Chicago where he worked. He was a man who not only valued the precision of his trade but also the camaraderie and connections he made through his work. Many of his early coworkers became lifelong friends.
An avid fisherman, Leon found tranquility and joy by the water, whether he was casting a line at dawn or sharing his catch with friends and family. His garden was a testament to his patience and care, flourishing under his green thumb. However, it was in the kitchen where Leon's creativity truly shined. His homemade Polish sausage and homemade dill pickles were a coveted treat, made with love and the flavors of his heritage.
Leon Kozlowski will be remembered not just for the life he lived but for the lives he touched. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his spirit will continue to inspire laughter, courage, and a zest for life in all of us. Rest in peace, Leon, knowing that your journey was well traveled, and your story will be told for generations to come.
