Leon McGhee Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Burden's Funeral Home - Griffin on Mar. 23, 2024.
The late Mr. Leon McGhee, Sr., was born on December 3, 1932, to the union of Mr. Will McGhee and Mrs. Hattie Gates McGhee in Odessadale, Georgia. He received his formal education at Fairmont High School in Griffin, Georgia.
Mr. Leon accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age at Branch Hebron Baptist Church in Odessadale, Georgia. On November 22, 1952, he was united in holy matrimony with his loving and devoted wife, Mrs. Meverlene Dallas in Griffin, Georgia. Their union was blessed with two beautiful children.
During his early employment, Mr. Leon was a custodian with the Griffin-Spalding County School System and a lifeguard at Johnson Pool on Johnson Pool Road (now Haskell Ward Drive). He was also employed at the Coca-Cola Plant in Griffin, Georgia, where he retired in 1993. In his leisure time he enjoyed doing woodwork around the house, where he would make various odds and ends, working in the yard and working on his lawn movers and cars.
On Tuesday, March 12, 2024, the pearly gates of Heaven opened, and Mr. Leon McGhee, Sr., soul was escorted to be with the Lord. Matthews 5:4 tells us "Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted", reminds us that although we are deeply saddened by the loss of our love one, the Lord will bless us with peace and comfort during our time of mourning. He was preceded in death by his parents, Will and Hattie McGhee; 10 siblings (as he was the last one living); and a son Clarence "Smug" McGhee.
Mr. Leon McGhee, Sr., leaves his everlasting memories to be cherished in the hearts of his loving and devoted wife, Mrs. Meverlene D. McGhee; son Leon McGhee, Jr.; grandsons, Omar McGhee, Sharieff McGhee, and Bilal McGhee; granddaughter, LaTosma McGhee; 14 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. He also leaves a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that will miss him dearly.
