Leon Robinson Satterthwaite, age 79, passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2025 peacefully at his home in Marksville.
Leon Robinson Satterthwaite was a graduate of Bolton High School. Upon graduation, he attended Northwestern State University, where he became a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He remained a life-long member of his fraternity.
During college, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he served two tours of duty and service of Vietnam. After his military service, he entered into the Maritime Industry as a Merchant Marine. Among his accolades, he was Captain of the St. Francisville Ferry. He then transferred to the Deep Sea Maritime Industry, where he served as an able bodied seaman, and also as a third mate. He spent the next forty years traveling the world. During this time, he received the United States Merchant Marine Expeditionary Award for contributions supporting American and International Coalition Military Forces in Operations Enduring freedom and Iraq Freedoms. He also received Marine Transport Lines recognition of efforts in the rescue of eighteen crew members from the MV Golden Park on November 4, 1988 in the South China Sea. Upon his retirement he settled in Marksville, where he owned the historic home of Dr. Barbin, built in 1902, where he loved to entertain friends and family. As a resident of Marksville, he became an active member of the Masonic Organization of Marksville.
Those left to cherish his memory are his sister, Ann Satterthwaite (Gerard) Dupuy; nieces, Claire Dupuy (Neal) Plauche and Felice Catherine Dupuy; grand nieces, Elisabeth Warren, Sicily Builodeau, Cloe Edwards, Amelia Plauche, and Ramona Plauche; and a grand nephew, Etienne Plauche.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Orley Clinton, Jr. & June Robinson Satterthwaite.
Leon “Rob” will be greatly missed for his sense of humor, style, and friendliness. His wishes were that a celebration of life will take place at his home at a later date.
