Neal R. Satterthwaite, born on February 3, 1949 in Muscatine, Iowa, passed away on May 9, 2025, in Blue Island, Illinois.
Neal is survived by his sister, Kay Scaletta, his niece and nephews, Kristen Scaletta, Matthew (Erin) Scaletta, and Joshua (Samantha) Scaletta, his great nephew and nieces and his cousins. Neal was preceded in death by his parents, Clifton and Lucile Satterthwaite.
Though born in Iowa, Neal spent the majority of his life in the south suburbs of Chicago, most recently making his home in Blue Island, Illinois. He earned his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Illinois, where he also developed a lifelong devotion to Illini athletics. A passionate reader and lifelong learner, Neal immersed himself in history and politics, cultivating a remarkable memory for dates and events. He served as the family's unofficial historian, always ready with a vivid story or a well-timed anecdote. Neal also nurtured deep, enduring friendships throughout his life-many of which became as steadfast and meaningful as family.
Neal leaves behind a legacy of kindness, brilliance, faith, and justice and will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
A visitation will be held at Hickey Memorial Chapel, 2429 West 127th St., Blue Island, Illinois, on Wednesday, May 14 from 9 to 11 a.m. followed by a Funeral Service at 11 AM. Interment will be at St. Luke Cemetery Beecher, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
