Leonard Eugene Mullis, 89 years old, of Marshville, NC, passed away Thursday May 23,2024. He was born September 18, 1934, to the late William Brady Mullis and Jessie Kettle Mullis of Waxhaw, NC.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday May 25, 2024 at Holland Funeral Service located at 806 Circle Drive Monroe, NC 2811 with burial to follow in the Hamilton Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday at Holland Funeral Service prior to the service from 1:00 PM to 1:50 PM.
He served in the United States Navy. After the Navy, his career was in the textile industry, where he was a supervisor. He was awarded many awards for his management and safety skills. He then married his loving wife of 57 years, Martha Henson Mullis. He was a member of the Price Chapel Baptist Church in Waxhaw, NC. Here he enjoyed playing guitar for the gospel groups. He loved the Lord and always made sure his children and grandchildren were in church.
He had many other passions throughout his life. First and foremost was being a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He loved to sing and play gospel and country music. His other past time activities included billiards, playing cards with friends and family. He also loved traveling to the NC mountains and riding the Blue Ridge Parkway.
He is preceded in death by his wife Martha Henson Mullis, son Terry Eugene Mullis, great-grandson Thomas Daniel Henley, and siblings, Hazel Samuel Mullis, Margaret L Mullis, Harvey P Mullis, and Frank F. Mullis.
He is survived by his daughter Sherry Lynn Casey (Kevin) of Marshville. Four grand-daughters Tammy Byrum Claytor (Porter) of Cheraw, SC, Tonya Helms (Johnny) of Marshville, Amanda Chalk (Jay) of Knightsdale, NC, and Anneliese Tebedo (Jason) of Angier, NC and one grandson Sean Casey (Kayla) of Locust, NC. Thirteen great grandchildren: Allen Henley, Gracie Casey, Austin Helms, Aiden Helms, Grayson Helms, Rachel Morton, Will Chalk, Cade Chalk, Isabella Tebedo, Colt Tebedo, Ranger Casey, Annabelle Claytor, and PJ Claytor. Three Great Great Grandchildren: Ezra Henley, Adrian Harris, and Alura Bogard.
He was also loved by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The family would like to give a very special thanks to Dr. Christopher J. Vieau, with Union Family Practice of Monroe, NC, for his professional and compassionate care of our loved one. We would also like to thank Dr. Christine Murray of the VA clinic in Charlotte, NC. Also, the wonderful and caring staff of Hospice of Union County.
