Leonard E. "Lenny" Vaudreuil, 86, of South Dennis, MA, formerly of
Shrewsbury, MA, passed away peacefully on April 18th, surrounded by family.
Born to Emil and Dorothy Vaudreuil, Lenny grew up in Shrewsbury, where he and his brother Alfred served as altar boys. They were also members of the Boy Scouts of America under their father's leadership. Lenny spoke often of his beloved Treasure Valley camp through the Boy Scouts where he was a camper, later becoming a camp counselor as a teenager. The brothers survived the devastating 1953 tornado that destroyed their family home, causing the family to scatter and live apart for many months while their new home was being built. Lenny was a proud graduate from St. John's High School (Worcester, MA) in 1956, attended St. Anselm's College, and later earned the degree of Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Clark University in 1970.
In 1958, he married Patricia A. (Hayes), the love of his life, whom he met while bagging her groceries at the Food Farm in Shrewsbury. They shared nearly 50 years together before her passing.
A devoted family man, Lenny cherished camping trips to New Hampshire's White Mountains and Maine's Booth Bay Harbor before settling into Cape Cod vacations. He relished Saturday card nights with Patricia and dear in-laws Eileen and Wally Atchue, filled with laughter and lively banter.
Professionally, Lenny succeeded his father as President of United Screw Machine Products in Worcester, earning recognition for 40 years in the screw machine industry. He served as President of the New England District of Precision Machine Products Association (1997–1998) and was a 3rd-degree Knights of Columbus member.
Retiring to Cape Cod, Lenny became a fixture at Dennis beaches-most notably Cold Storage Beach where friends dubbed him "the Mayor." When Patricia could no longer make the walk down the boardwalk of Cold Storage, Lenny gladly moved his beach time to Corporation Beach where she could easily get onto the beach with him. He ushered at Our Lady of the Cape Church and remained the life of every gathering, known for his storytelling, love of 1950s music, of which he could likely name that tune in one note, and infectious laughter. He was blessed with many visits from family in his final years and, with the support of his son Thomas L. Vaudreuil, was able to pass away in his own home as he had wished.
Lenny is survived by his children Thomas L. Vaudreuil (South Dennis, MA), Theresa L. Howard (Michael, Rochdale, MA), Michael P. Vaudreuil (Joyce, Vernon, CT), and Cathleen M. Brown (Carter, New Boston, NH); brother Alfred J. Vaudreuil (Joanne, Crestline, OH); grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (www.pulmonaryfibrosis.org ) in dedication to Patricia.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the Vaudreuil family between 5 – 7 PM on Thursday, May 1, 2025 at the BRITTON-SHREWSBURY FUNERAL HOME, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury. His prayer service will be held at 11 AM on Friday May 2nd in the funeral home, with burial to follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Shrewsbury.
