LeRoy "Chub" Carl Fessler
February 3, 1939 – November 22, 2024
LeRoy "Chub" Fessler passed peacefully at the age of 85, surrounded by love, on Friday November 22, 2024, with his wife and kids at his bedside. He was born February 3, 1939 in Silverton, Oregon, to Carl and Anne Fessler. Chub was raised in Mt. Angel on a farm and attended Mt. Angel Prep High School of which he graduated in 1957. Thereafter, he spent time serving in the National Guard before marrying his wife of over 64 years, Jan Anderson, on February 13, 1960 at St Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Angel, Oregon. Not long after, their family grew with the addition of their four children, Rodney, Glenn, Wayne, and Joan. With their family complete, they moved to
Madras, Oregon Memorial Day weekend of 1970 and thus began their next adventure.
Chub worked at Poole Krieger Implement - John Deere, first serving as a parts man, then salesman followed by a manager role under the Central Tractor name until retiring in 1978. Upon leaving, he began his career in the farming and ranching industry with his family at his side; this was his passion. From there his presence in the community grew as he was committed to active involvement in the community he knew and loved. He had the most enthusiasm for Mondays at the Madras auction yard and the annual youth livestock auction through the Jefferson County Livestock Association, of which he was Jefferson County Livestockman of the year in 1982. He also enjoyed the Western Video Market and the opportunity to travel to Reno each summer. He retired from the farming and ranching industry three times, but as he and many of us knew, retirement was never fully in his plan. Chub was an avid outdoorsman and seized the opportunity to fill a hunting tag, fish, camp, or explore the terrain around him; traits he passed to his kids and grandkids.
Above all else, Chub was a good and generous man who fiercely loved his friends, family, and God. He was a known friend throughout the community, quick to introduce himself to those he'd yet to meet or lend a helping hand, and in his later years thoroughly enjoyed the friendships and comradery of mornings at Eagle Bakery. His family was his treasure, and he was protective and proud of them all. Chub was an adamant supporter of his kids and grandkids in their pursuit to achieving their goals and wanted the best for them. His faith in God and Catholicism was admirably strong, devout, and unwavering.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Richard, Ronald, and Jim. He is survived by his wife Jan, children Rod (Sherri), Glenn (Jeannie), Wayne (Mandy), Joan (Kent), 15 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren.
Rosary Monday Dec. 2 6 pm at St. Patrick Catholic Church. A memorial mass will be offered at 11 am Tuesday Dec. 3 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 341 SW J St,
Madras, Oregon. Reception to follow. Contributions in his memory may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church or Jefferson County Livestock Association.
