We bid Farewell
The life of Leroy James Mathies gracefully concluded on January 24, 2025 at his home in Bloomington MN where he quietly slipped into his eternal resting place surrounded by family. A man of deep faith, who now joins family which proceeded him in death wife Jeanne, parents Thomas and Adeline, and siblings Joseph, Melvin and Kathy.
In life Leroy, also known as Le, was born in Cold Spring MN 14 August 1934. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing baseball. He joined the Army as a Paratrooper in February 1954 and was very proud of his service to his country. A man of short stature, Le always said, "I used to be 6' tall until I started jumping out of airplanes." His passion for work landed him a few careers - carpet layer, construction with his brother-in-law and best friend Dick Albachten, and finally Walmart assembling items for customers. After retiring at the age of 86 he enjoyed watching nature and people. Le truly loved people of any age with the ability to make everyone he met feel valued and important. He volunteered most of his life with the Lions Club, AA, Shriners Hospital and wherever he was needed. His patience and compassion touched countless lives with warmth, kindness, quick wit, and sense of humor leaving behind cherished memories that will forever echo in those hearts. We know it's "much more gooder" (a Le quote) for you now in heaven.
Le is survived by his children - Joan (Mark) Fuller, Rich (Char) Mathies, Julie (Gary) Carlson, Jean (Randy Vickerman) Mathies, Grandchildren-Anthony Fuller, Jessica Mathies, Leah Kulbeth, Richard Fuller, Angie Leadens, Joshua Mathies, Russell Vickerman, Melissa Mathies, Great grandchildren- Richard Mark, Harper Fuller, Carter Leadens, Bennett Leadens, Zeke Fuller and siblings Earl, Carol Albachten, Tom, Ronnie, Donnie and Vernon. We pray the legacy of Le, also known as Dad, Papa, Grandpa and Lepa, will forever inspire us to live each day with purpose, passion and profound gratitude for the gift of life itself.
There will be Mass 31 January 2025 11:00 A.M., reviewal 10:00A.M. Nativity of Mary Catholic Church, 9900 Lyndale Ave S Bloomington MN 55420.

One of my favorite memories with grandpa is when he would come up north to the cabin! When he was there we would go out fishing! He loved going sunny fishing! When we would be out he would tangle up his line some how. Once that happened he would just sit back and smile watching josh, ambrea and myself still fishing.
One time when we were sunny fishing I caught a dog fish. 1st one I had every caught. The thing put up a fight. While I was fighting the unknown fish at the time grandpa was telling me not to give up and that I had it. Got the fish in the net he got a big smile and said great grandma mathies would have loved that for her garden. Which lead to hearing about great grandma.
I will always cherish those fishing trips we got to take with Grandpa! I love you Grandpa!!
