Lessie M. Wrenfro was born on September 7, 1935 in Fellsmere, Florida to the late Sentie Wrenfro and the late Johnnie Wrenfro. In 1954, she graduated from the historic Lincoln Park Academy in Fort Pierce, Florida. After graduation from high, Lessie moved to Miami, Florida. Several years later she moved to Queens, New York where she worked for NBC Television Station as an Executive Secretary for more than 20 years. While living in New York, Lessie studied voice at Dr. Chauncey Northen Vocal Art School at Carnegie Hall, New York. She was presented in a joint concert recital at CAMI Hall in New York. After retirement, she relocated back to her hometown of Fort Pierce to take care of her Sentie Wrenfro White until her passing.
Lessie was a former member of Greater Bethel A.M.E. Church in Miami, Florida where she was a member of Choir #2 and Greater Allen A.M.E. Cathedral in Jamaica, New York under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Floyd H. Flake where she was a member of the choir. Upon returning to Fort Pierce, she reconnected with her church family, Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church under the leadership of Rev. Millard Campbell. She was a member of the Ann Robinson Missionary Society and was nominated as a "Missionary Pearl." She was also a member of Allen Chapel Senior Choir. Her passion was singing for the Lord.
She was always ready to go to Women's Missionary Society meetings no matter where they were. She would attend meetings with her "Special and Devoted Friends" Michael and Joan McKinnon. Lessie was their "riding partner." Her other passion was talking on the phone. She kept everyone up to date on what was going on with her church family. She loved talking to her special friend Pearlie Smith. After the passing of her Mom, Lessie adopted Mother Mary Flowers as her "Mom" and her family as she was the "Plus One Daughter and Sister."
Lessie was preceded in death by her mother Sentie Wrenfro White, her father Johnnie Wrenfro, and brother Lorenzo Wrenfro. She leaves to cherish her memories two devoted and loving daughters Sandra L. Bethel of Ft. Pierce, Florida and Dr. Rosa R. Simmons of Miramar, Florida; a devoted son-in-law who she considered her son rather than her son-in-law, Donald A. Bethel; two sisters Beverly Wrenfro and Pat Wrenfro of Orlando, Florida; two adopted daughters Theresa Streeter and LeVonia Bright; one daughter, Brandace (Corey) Dean of Coconut Creek, Florida; one great grandson, Tristan Brayden Dean; and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, and sorrowing friends. Thank You Solomon (SK) Smith for always being there for Lessie, as well as her neighbor Jeff Morgan who always kept an eye on her.
Lessie will be forever remembered for her anointed voice, beautiful smile, stylish clothing and shoes, caring heart, loving embrace and unconditional love. Although our hearts are heavy, we will celebrate her life and find comfort that she is in Heaven watching over us.
