November 30, 2024 - Letitia (Theoret) Holsworth, a loving mother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully in Gulf Breeze, Florida, after a long illness. She was 60 years old.
Born in St. Albans, VT, Letitia proudly called herself a "true Vermonter," a title she loved to joke about, especially in contrast to her brothers, Jeremy and Mike, who were born in New Britain, CT. She grew up in Fairfax, VT, and graduated from Bellows Free Academy. After attending Champlain College for a time and caring for her grandmother, Letitia enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1985, where she served for four years. It was during her time stationed in Little Rock, Arkansas, that she met her future husband, Shayne. They were married in 1985 in South Dakota, and soon after, their two children were born.
They later settled in the Florida panhandle when Shayne was reassigned there. For the past several decades, Letitia called Florida home.
Letitia had many passions, but none greater than being a mother to her two children and to her "adopted" kids - all of Devon and Noah's friends. She also had a special love for animals, particularly sloths, whose calm demeanor and slow pace she admired. Her affection for animals extended to her beloved 14-year-old Chihuahua and several cats, all of whom were loyal companions. Letitia enjoyed reading mystery novels, needlepoint, and took great delight in watching sea turtles lay their eggs on the beach. She cherished road trips with Shayne and found joy in the simple pleasures of life, whether it was reading a good book or enjoying a quiet moment with her pets.
Known for her sweetness, kindness, and sense of humor, Letitia was the type of person who could always make others laugh, no matter the challenges she faced. Her family and friends will remember her for her unwavering positivity, her ability to brighten any room with her smile, and her playful jokes that never failed to lift the spirits of those around her.
Letitia was predeceased by her parents, Gerald (2007) and Victoria Theoret (2006), and her beloved husband of 37 years, Shayne Holsworth, who passed away in January of this year.
She is survived by her two sons, Devon Holsworth of Rapid City, SD, and Noah Holsworth of Milton, FL; her brothers, Jeremy Theoret of Albuquerque, NM, Michael Theoret of Fairfax, VT, and Timothy Theoret of Fairfax, VT; her sister, Amanda Theoret Monks of Bennington, VT; her nephew, Octavian Theoret of Albuquerque, NM; as well as numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, and extended family.
Letitia will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Per her wishes, a private memorial will be held in Vermont next summer.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Sea Turtle Conservancy, a local animal shelter, or a sloth rescue organization in Letitia's memory.
