Letty Lea Bagwell (LaRue), formerly of Capitan NM, age 49, passed away on September 15th, 2024, in Lubbock, TX. She was born in Albuquerque, NM on May 23rd, 1975.
She graduated high school from Capitan High School, home of the tigers. She got her bachelor’s degree from South Plains College in Levelland, TX, and went on to earn her associate's degree from Texas Tech and three more degrees later from the University of Phoenix. Letty was brilliant, earning her five degrees and about to finish the doctoral program at the University of Phoenix. Her passion for learning and education was without comparison, there wasn’t anything she could ever learn enough about. Her love for progression and education was rewarded when she was presented a platform in the women’s magazine, “P.O.W.E.R”. She was a loving mother of two children but a mother figure to many different children throughout the past few years, as a career counselor at Job Corps in Guthrie, OK, as well as in Roswell, NM. She had recently become a member of an unofficial crochet club with her lovely coworkers. She loved all things fashionable such as shoes, jewelry, and purses as well as the simplicities in life such as bonding over a cup of coffee and watching her favorite shows.
She was preceded in death by her husband Derek Gaskins; her mom and dad; Wayne and Johanna LaRue.
She is survived by a daughter; Elisha Bagwell of Roswell NM, a son; Dale Atkins and his wife Shelly of Lubbock, TX, A sister; Lesley Waldrip and husband Jake of Artesia, NM, a brother; Wilson LaRue and wife Kris of Brock, TX, along with many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Letty will be Saturday, September 28, 2024, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. Funeral Services will begin at 1:00 pm both will be at Ballard Chapel 910 South Main Street.
