Leverett H. DeJonghe, age 87 of Tecumseh passed away on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at Cambrian Assisted Living with his family by his side. He was born October 6, 1934 in Macon, a son of the late Morris and Exelene (Upell) DeJonghe. On December 12, 1959 in Tecumseh, Lev married Velma June Strachn and they have shared over 62 years together.
A baker for over 60 years Lev and his wife Velma owned Lev's Bakery in Tecumseh. Lev was active at the bakery until his health made it difficult to be there every day. He had a love for airplanes and enjoyed flying, but most of all enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Besides his wife, Velma, Lev is survived by his children, Robert (Carrie) DeJonghe of Saline, Lynn (Kris) Eggleston of Dundee and Roger (Kathy) DeJonghe of Tecumseh; sister, Lorraine DeJonghe of Ridgeway; four brothers, Lyle DeJonghe of Britton, Larry DeJonghe of Tecumseh, Leroy DeJonghe of Britton and Leslie (Annie) DeJonghe of Britton; seven grandchildren, Todd (Yolanda) DeJonghe, Mandi (Sanket) Patel, Tonya DeJonghe, Ben (Jenna) DeJonghe, Nick (Chiresse) Eggleston, Nina DeJonghe and Amber Erickson; 12 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and many close friends. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Linda Faust.
Visitation for Lev will be from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm on Sunday, June 5, 2022 at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes. Funeral services will be at 11 am Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Tom Hawkins officiating with visitation from 10 am until the service. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery in Tecumseh. Memorial contributions may be made to NewSong Community Church.
