Lewis Gessler Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Nassau Funeral Home - Callahan on Feb. 12, 2026.
Gessler – Lewis Reed Gessler, age 90, of Hilliard, Florida passed away peacefully on February 5, 2026, at W. Frank Wells Nursing Home. He was born on September 12, 1935, in Chicago, Illinois to the late Herman Vance Gessler and Margaret Huntsinger Gessler. Lewis was a proud veteran of the United States Navy and served his country with honor. During his time in the Navy, Lewis combined his love for sports with his service by playing baseball for the Navy team. After completing his military service, Lewis went on to build a successful career and eventually retired from Yamaha after 15 years of dedicated work. He was an active member of First Advent Christian Church in Live Oak, Florida. His faith played a central role in his life, guiding him not only spiritually but also in acts of service. Even into his later years, he could often be found volunteering through his church, most notably passing out meals to those in need, until illness prevented him from continuing this heartfelt mission. Outside of work and service, Lewis embraced life with enthusiasm. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. He also enjoyed fishing and golfing, pastimes that brought him joy and relaxation throughout the years. Lewis leaves behind a legacy of dedication to his country, his community, and the things he loved most. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Phyllis Gessler; first wife of 58 years, June Gessler; and second wife of 3 years, Linda Gessler.

Lewis leaves behind his children, Fred (Arielle) Smith, Jason (Jennifer) Kane; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

A Graveside Service for Lewis will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Jacksonville National Cemetery where military honors will be rendered. The arrangements are under the care and direction of Nassau Funeral Home, 541720 US-1, Callahan, Florida 32011, 904-879-1770. Visit www.nassaufh.com to sign the family's guest book.
