Linda M. (Franklin) Helman (74), of Beverly, passed away unexpectedly on May 21, 2024.
Linda was born in Boston, to adoring parents Natalie & Maurice Franklin in the Spring of 1949, the second of two daughters.
After graduating from The Jeremiah E. Burke School for Girls in 1967, Linda attended Boston University, where she earned her bachelor's degree in occupational therapy. While at college, Linda met her future sister-in-law, who would go on to introduce her to her husband Stephen B. Helman.
As a young couple, Linda & Steve ran the Dairy Queen in Lynn, Massachusetts, where Linda was able to express her love of art and creativity by decorating ice cream cakes. Linda and Steve married in January of 1977, so as not to interrupt ice cream season, and went on to welcome two daughters Naomi and Michelle. Linda instilled a strong Jewish identity in her daughters, and proudly had her own Bat Mitzvah at the age of 40. When the Dairy Queen of Lynn closed she worked tirelessly as an OT-R at Shaunessy Kaplan Rehabilitation Hospital and Salem Hospital until she retired in 2010.
Linda, a treasured Bubbie to all who knew her, welcomed all into her home and life with an open heart and a warm embrace. A gracious host and amazing cook, she took pride in making sure anyone who entered her home was well-fed and treated like family.
Linda loved to paint, doodle, play Mah-jongg, and shop for things she didn't need. Linda loved to go out to dinner, attend plays at the North Shore Music Theater, and watch Hallmark movies with her girls. Her greatest joy in life however, was spending time with her daughters, grandchildren, sister, and dearest friends.
Linda was predeceased by her loving husband Steve, and her sister Judi. She is survived by her beloved daughters Naomi (Helman) Brown and Michelle Helman Winer, her son-in-law Jeffery Winer, adored grandchildren Eliana, Sam, Alex, and Libby, and granddogs Eva & Stella.
Linda will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Services at Temple Tiferet Shalom 489 Lowell Street, Peabody on Friday, May 24 at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow in Beverly. Condolence calls may be made at her late residence following the interment of Friday until 7PM, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday from 10AM-7PM. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Heart Association www.heart.org.

I met Linda in junior high school when I moved to Mattapan and became close friends with her sister Judi, her future husband Mickey and her first cousin Rhonda. My sympathy to her friends, daughters and grandchildren.

I went to Art class with Linda and was very fond of her. She was dedicated to her family and enjoyed painting very much. I have missed her and wondered where she was. This is the sad part of growing older. May her memory be a blessing to both her daughters and her grandchildren and son-in-law, Kathy Melvin
