Linda J. McCarthy

Rutland Town- It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of Linda J. McCarthy. Embraced by her loved ones at home in Rutland, Linda went to Heaven on August 12th, 2025, at the age of 70 after battling a long illness of non-alcoholic cirrhosis.

Linda was born on March 8th, 1955, in Summit, New Jersey, the daughter of Herbert and Gloria Kreutz and grew up in Union, New Jersey.

Linda attended Bridgewater-Raritan High School West and graduated in the class of 1973. She always had great memories of being on the drill team during her high school years. After graduation, Linda went on to get her certification to be a dental hygienist and enjoyed that career for many years in both NJ and Vermont.

Linda met the love of her life, Kevin C. McCarthy, in 1974 and they were married on October 6th, 1975. They lived happily for several years in New Jersey and had their two daughters, before moving to Vermont in 1995.

After many years of being a dental hygienist, Linda found her calling in education as a Para-Educator at OVUHS and MRUHS. She truly enjoyed working with kids and also became the sub-coordinator while working as a substitute teacher at Mill River High School.

Linda was the beloved wife of 50 years to Kevin, and devoted mother to her two daughters, Jaclynn and Jenny. Family meant everything to her and she loved the simple pleasures in life. As a teenager, her favorite memory was a road trip across the country with her family to California. Linda was an amazing cook, baker, and homemaker. She enjoyed sitting outside on her porch drinking tea, reading her books while listening to the birds, gardening, decorating, baking and spending time with her family. She always made everyone feel at home with her loving and caring nature and was known for her warmth, kindness and compassion. Linda was the heart and soul of her family and was always there front and center supporting and loving them. Linda will be deeply missed, and her legacy, traditions and memories will be cherished and carried in our hearts forever.

Linda is survived by her husband of 50 years; Kevin McCarthy of Rutland; two daughters, Jaclynn McCarthy of Rutland, and Jennifer McCarthy of Fair Haven; a grandson, Tanner McCarthy; her mother Gloria Kreutz- Harvin of FL; two sisters Lori and Lisa of FL; and a brother Herbie of FL.

She was predeceased by her father Herbert Kreutz sr. in 2017.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Linda sometime in the fall.
